واژه ی "devil" و واژه ی "ابلیس" از یک ریشه ی هند و اروپایی هستند . ریشه ی این دو لغت پس از آنکه به زبان انگلیسی وارد شد به "devil" تبدیل شد و به زبان عربی وارد شد به "ابلیس" تغییر شکل داد . «ابلیس»iblis از ریشه «بلس» و برگرفته از كلمه‌ی «ابلاس»، به معنای غم و اندوهی است كه از شدت یأس و ناامیدی باشد.

Iblis - Azazil

(ˈɪblɪs) noun. (in Islamic mythology) an evil spirit or devil, the chief of the wicked jinn.

Iblīs, in Islam, the personal name of the Devil, possibly derived from the Greek diabolos. Iblīs, the counterpart of Satan in Christianity, is also referred to as ʿAduw Allāh ( “Enemy of God”), al-Aduw (“Enemy”), or, when he is portrayed as a tempter, al-Shayṭān (“Demon”).

Allah said to Iblis: 'O Iblis! What is your reason for not prostrating? ' Iblis said, 'I am not the one to prostrate myself to a human being whom you have created from sounding clay of altered black smooth mud'.” (Qur'an 15:28-35)

What Are Satan's Aims and Strategies

shaitan, in Islāmic myth, an unbelieving class of jinn (“spirits”); it is also the name of Iblīs, the devil, when he is performing demonic acts.

the nature of Satan’s strategies

Since Satan has no power, nor authority over people, his strategies revolve around seducing, tricking, and misleading people via his endless waswas (whispers and incitements).

As to how he hoodwinked Adam and his wife, for example, the Qur’an uses the words dalla-huma bi ghurur, which is normally translated as “he caused them to fall by deceit (through deception)” (al-A’raf, 22). However, the word dalla means to “let, hang or haul down,” “to lower” and “to suspend.” Dalw likewise means “(water well) bucket,” which is let down or lowered into a well.

Satan's Strategies Against You

This means that Satan “hangs down” or “suspends” his deceptions, choosing strategic locations, conducive environments, and attractive “baits”, and waits for people to “bite” and get caught. He ceaselessly conspires to ambush and “hook” people. He has all the time in the world to wait and adjust his tactics whenever necessary.

Satan does not get what he wants easily and instantaneously.

He must strategize, make arrangements and wait. It is not easy to neutralize people’s intelligence and their inborn disposition (fitrah).

In essence, it is people who destroy themselves, not Satan. Satan merely tries to present good and beautiful things as ugly and disgusting, while ugly and disgusting (evil) things he tries to make seem good and attractive in the eye of the beholder.

People need to be so hooked on Satan’s fake promises and boons that even if they wanted to unhook and free themselves therefrom, they will find it very difficult to do so. The Qur’an calls this operation - and determines at the same time Satan’s jurisdiction - tazyin, which means (false) adornment and beautification.

Undeniably, there is nothing quintessential concerning Satan, his life, and his modi operandi. Everything is a deception and a mirage. He as such can operate only in milieus where there are no values, no truth, no virtue, no beauty, no hope, no meaning, and no nothing.

What is more, Satan in Arabic is shaytan. The word is derived from shatn, which means “rope” used to control something, like a horse, or to attach something in order to get something else thereby, like fastening a bucket to a rope and casting it into a well to get water.

This meaning, too, brings to mind the ways Satan works. The message is yet akin to the example of suspending “baits.”

In fact, the two complement each other, because for “baits” and the whole exercises of “hooking” and “catching” to function properly they must be attached to sufficiently long and strong ropes (shatn). They must be mashtun (firmly connected and easily controlled).

It could also be that the word shaytan is derived from shatn (rope) because once he gains full control of a person, Satan manipulates him as if by placing a noose around his neck. Or because such a person becomes a marionette worked by strings or ropes. He has no action of his own. Whatever he does is by Satan’s command. He becomes mashtun by shaytan.

Evil” came from the Old English word, “yfel” which means “wicked”, “vicious”, or “bad”. It is universally understood as the absence of goodness. Nonetheless, this is a very broad concept with subjective interpretations. Regarding religion, it is being immoral or disobeying God’s laws. For example, evil deeds are those that go against the nature of God. From a psychological perspective, being evil usually means being cruel and having a significant lack of empathy. For instance, exploitative behaviors like those of serial killers, rapists, and unethical human experiments exhibit no regard for others. Many experts say that “evil” behavior is often caused by an intricate combination of childhood experience, neurological factors, culture, and/or cognitive patterns.

Devil” came from the Greek word “diaballein” which is translated as “to slander” or “to attack” and it is often used as the general personification of evil. For instance, somebody is dubbed as “the devil” if he or she exhibits consistent cruelty. This word is also broadly understood as the highest spirit of wickedness. It is then the opponent of God as it stands for everything which goes against goodness.

2 Corinthians 11:13-21 New Living Translation (NLT)

Even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light. So it is no wonder that his servants also disguise themselves as servants of righteousness. In the end they will get the punishment their wicked deeds deserve.

Ephesians 4:26–28 “Be angry and do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your anger, and give no opportunity to the devil. Let the thief no longer steal, but rather let him labor, doing honest work with his own hands, so that he may have something to share with anyone in need.”

Ezekiel 28:17 “Your heart was proud because of your beauty; you corrupted your wisdom for the sake of your splendor. I cast you to the ground; I exposed you before kings, to feast their eyes on you.”

What are Satan's promises?

Satan promises the best, but pays with the worst; He promises honor and pays with disgrace; He promises pleasure and pays with pain; He promises profit and pays with loss; He promises life and pays with death.—Thomas Brooks.
