As the season of spooks approaches, millions of people across the world will be putting on their most terrifying outfits of in a rush to celebrate Halloween.

Halloween originates from Samhain, a Pagan festival celebrated by Celts on a day around 31 October, marking the end of the harvest season and a time to venerate ancestors, a moment when the veils between the worlds of the living and the dead are at their thinnest.

Paganism encompasses a diverse community with some groups concentrating on specific traditions, practices or elements such as ecology, witchcraft, Celtic traditions or certain gods. Wiccans, Druids, Shamans, Sacred Ecologists, Odinists and Heathens all make up parts of the Pagan community.

Christo-Pagans typically believe in the divinity of Jesus, and that Christian and neopagan beliefs are not mutually exclusive.

Modern paganism, also known as "contemporary" or "neopagan", encompasses a wide range of religious groups and individuals. These may include old occult groups, those that follow a New Age approach, those that try to reconstruct old ethnic religions, and followers of the pagan religion or Wicca.

The Bible and Christian theology consider every religion other than Christianity as inspired by Satan and inherently evil. The followers of Jesus considered it their sacred duty to destroy pagan temples and pagan culture wherever they found them.

What is Halloween 🎃 👻 🍬?

Halloween, also known as All Hallows' Eve, or All Saints' Eve, is a celebration observed in many countries on 31 October, the eve of the Western Christian feast of All Hallows' Day.

What is the history of Halloween?

In the eighth century, Pope Gregory III designated November 1 as a time to honor saints. Soon after, All Saints Day came to incorporate some of the traditions of Samhain. The evening before All Saints Day was known as All Hallows Eve, and later, Halloween.

While there is no Biblical response to Halloween specifically, the Bible does have a lot to say about death, darkness, and evil. And for some, Halloween is a season to reckon with these themes.

It coincides with Christian days venerating the departed. Halloween is on the eve of All Hallow’s Day, or All Saints Day, a time when there were vigils preparing for rituals commemorating Christian saints. This is followed by All Souls Day on 2 November, when all who have departed are remembered.

Samhain, which means summer’s end, grew in popularity and spread to America with colonialism. From there, its influence has enveloped the globe as 31 October becomes a night for trick-or-treating, dressing up, watching horror movies, and sharing ghost stories.

It can be a touchy subject for monotheistic religions, where demons, Satan, and evil are shunned and engagement with the topic is discouraged. But what are the Islamic beliefs around Halloween?

What do Muslims believe about ghosts, witches, the supernatural and paranormal?

A belief in the Unseen realm (al-Ghaib) is a core belief in the Islamic faith and is mentioned on many occasions throughout the Quran. The Unseen comprises universes that are beyond human perception, as well as supernatural beings including angels, jinn (beings with free will created from smokeless fire), and evil entities such as Shaitan which seek to lead people away from their purpose and from Allah.

When it comes to supernatural entities, the scholar Fatima Barkatulla says there is an element of ultimate mystery.

She refers to a verse in the Quran in the sixth chapter Surah Al-An’am: “With Him are the keys of the Unseen — no one knows them except Him.”

Shaykha Barkatulla told the Religion Media Centre: “There are many stories which Muslims believe to be historically true about some of the prophets like Sulayman [Solomon] being given power to control elements of the Unseen realm. In Islam, belief in the supernatural is centred on the existence of beings such as angels, jinn [spirits], and Shaitan [Satan]. Muslims do not believe in ghosts as the spirits of the dead returning to Earth.

“Instead, after death, souls are believed to reside in the Barzakh — the state between death and resurrection — until the Day of Judgment. What some may perceive as ghosts could be manifestations of the jinn.

“Islam also acknowledges the existence of evil beings, like Shaitan and certain jinn, but these are not fictional monsters but real spiritual entities with free will, capable of good or evil. Jinn are probably what came to be caricatured as ‘genies’ in the western world.”

Tawheed is the belief in the oneness of God and the singularity of Allah as the only deity worthy of worship. With Tawheed being a central tenet of the faith, Muslims have to tread carefully when it comes to engaging in beliefs considered to be polytheistic or have Pagan roots.

Everything can be forgiven in the Islamic faith, except for a belief in a fragmented, split, or polytheistic conception of God — something known as shirk, or idolatry. However, interpretations of what this comprises vary.

Muslims, therefore, are generally discouraged from engaging in practices that circumvent a belief in Allah as the ultimate reality. These practices include witchcraft, which has ritualistic customs not considered divinely ordained.

“Islam acknowledges the existence of witchcraft (sihr), but it is viewed as an evil practice that is strictly condemned,” Shaykha Barkatulla says. “Witchcraft involves calling upon jinn or engaging in forbidden acts, and it is considered a major sin. The Quran and the teachings of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) warn against both practising and believing in witchcraft.

“Although fictional portrayals of witches in popular culture may differ, the Islamic understanding is that sorcery and supernatural acts meant to harm or deceive others are real but severely prohibited. Practising witchcraft can cause a person to be brought outside of Islam.”

Many Islamic scholars discourage the celebration of Halloween as it could lead one to inadvertently engage in polytheistic practices.

“Muslims cannot celebrate Halloween in any form due to its origins in Pagan and non-Islamic traditions,” Shaykha Barkatulla says.

She is firm on the issue: “Halloween is considered forbidden because of its historical connections to the Celtic festival of Samhain and its association with spirits, witchcraft, and satanic practices.”

However, Dar al-Ifta al Misriyyah, the Egyptian Fatwa Board, says a balanced approach is acceptable, citing that such events have now become “social occasions”.

In response to a question about the permissibility of Halloween and Valentine’s Day, it wrote: “Such kinds of celebrations have become social occasions. Therefore, there is no objection to participating in them provided a Muslim does not do anything that contradicts the Islamic creed.”

But Shaykha Barkatulla warns: “Participation in activities like dressing up, trick-or-treating, carving pumpkins, and giving out candy is discouraged, as these actions are seen as indulging in a Pagan celebration. Even if Muslims participate without acknowledging its deeper meaning, they are still engaging in a practice that goes against Islamic values.”

When asked if it was OK to dress as characters that are not supernatural demons or witches, such as comic book characters, she advised: “If they are tied to an event like Halloween, Muslims should approach participation in such activities with caution. While dressing up for school or work may seem harmless, if it is part of a celebration or event that has non-Islamic roots, it is discouraged.”

However, Dr Shabir Ally, the Canadian Islamic scholar, and president of the Islamic Information and Dawah Centre, insists that too much inflexibility with the faith can lead to people leaving it.

“There seems to be a middle ground,” he said in an interview for Let the Quran Speak. “Muslims themselves can decide, based on their own inclinations, their own feelings, and how they interact with people, what their goals are as Muslims.”

He continued: “They can decide whether Halloween fits into those goals and the situation in which a person lives. If a Muslim child is saying, ‘Look, all my friends are going out trick-or-treating, why can I not go?’, a Muslim parent can say, ‘That’s because you’re a Muslim’. It adds up in the balance sheet of cost and benefit in the child’s mind like Islam is costing them greatly and they cannot have fun.

“So, this is one fun thing that they are deprived of, and then there’s going to be another fun thing, and a third fun thing, and a fourth one. So eventually, that could contribute to our children leaving Islam, because it becomes too difficult for them to be Muslim.”

Shaykha Barkatulla says: “Islam means surrendering to, or being at peace with, God. It is the original religion of Adam and the prophets who came after him.”

She adds: “Because it is so easy for the original religion that God revealed to human beings to be corrupted over time and become completely the opposite of what it came to teach, the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) warned against introducing practices into the religion that could corrupt it. Islam also sought to remove superstitious practices and warn people against collusion with the world of spirits and demons in the form of witchcraft or magic.”

Are mediums different than psychics?

Psychics can see into the future and the past and present, but mediums do not. However, a medium's role is that of an intermediary. It is this distinction that defines a psychic from a medium. Psychics and mediums are used to perform at fairs, carnivals, and other public events.

Mediumship is the practice of purportedly mediating communication between familiar spirits or spirits of the dead and living human beings. Practitioners are known as "mediums" or "spirit mediums".

There are different types of mediumship or spirit channelling, including séance tables, trance, and ouija. The practice is associated with spiritualism and spiritism. A similar New Age practice is known as channeling.

Belief in psychic ability is widespread despite the absence of empirical evidence for its existence. Are witches and psychics the same?

Psychics and witches are not the same, and are often offended by the implication that they are. Many witches follow Wicca, an officially recognised religion in Canada and the US, and some groups have been given tax exempt status. There is a long-standing tradition that Wiccans should not charge for their ritu.

Telekinesis (Greek for "mind" and "motion") is the ability to move objects with your mind. There's no evidence of telekinesis in humans; popular "telekinetics" like Uri Geller have been debunked as frauds.

What is telekinesis?

Simply put, it is the moving or manipulating of objects with the mind, without directly touching them. Experiments to prove the existence of telekinesis have historically been criticized for lack of proper controls and repeatability.

Mind reading may refer to: Telepathy, the transfer of information between individuals by means other than the five senses. The illusion of telepathy in the performing art of mentalism.

Parapsychology, the study of psychic powers and other extrasensory phenomena, began in the 1930s. Research has failed to prove the ability to influence objects (telekinesis) or people (psychokinesis) by the power of the mind.

What is telekinesis vs psychokinesis?

They're used interchangeably most of the time, but the two are different in detail. Psychokinesis is the ability to manipulate objects with your mind, this includes moving, bending, molding, or otherwise influencing things. Telekinesis is specifically the ability to move things with your mind.

Omnikinesis is the ability to mentally control anything and everything that exists, organic or created, existing now or in the future, right down to the molecular level. Jinn, or djinn, are often viewed as mystical beings that can interact with the physical world in various ways. In many cultures, it's believed that jinn can influence environments and objects, which raises the intriguing possibility that they could indeed turn off lights.

The term "jinn" itself implies something hidden or concealed, which aligns with their association with dark and often unseen locations.

In pre-Islamic Arabia, djinn (or jinn) were spirits that were both feared and admired. Djinn inspired poets, controlled the weather, and caused the fields to produce crops. The Quran depicts djinn as spirits that are neither good nor evil but can choose their actions.

In pre-Islamic Arabia, jinn were both feared and revered. Some believed they were responsible for illnesses and mental health issues, highlighting the potential danger associated with them.

Jinn, like angels, are not bound by the constraints of time and space within which we move. Like angels, jinn move extremely fast; they are not bound by the constraints of time and space within which we normally move.

Do Jinns play with electricity?

Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said, “The jinn will play with the flame.” Jinn, created from smokeless fire, can interfere with electrical appliances, causing flickering lights or unexplained power outages. Such occurrences often align with moments of unease or strange sensations within the home.

In Islamic lore, jinn are frequently associated with darkness and hidden places. They are said to inhabit areas like caves, ruins, graveyards, and even unclean places such as toilets. Jinn are believed to be beings of smokeless fire, capable of taking on various forms and possessing abilities beyond human comprehension, including rapid movement and shapeshifting. Their connection to darkness is partly rooted in the very meaning of their name, "jinn," which derives from the Arabic root meaning "to hide" or "be hidden".

The concept of darkness as a realm of jinn is further emphasized in Islamic texts and teachings, where darkness is often associated with negative forces and entities.

In order to get rid of your fear of the Jinn, I advise you to employ the following procedures:

1. Seek help from Allah and frequently seek refuge with him from Satan and his helpers from among the Jinn.
2. Be steadfast in praying on time.
3. Always read the prescribed remembrances of the morning and the evening, the remembrance before sleeping, and the other well-known remembrances.
4. Read or at lest listen to Sûrah al-Baqarah in full at least once every three days.
5. Read Ayah al-Kursî daily and particularly before going to bed. This is sure protection from the Jinn.
6. You have to abide strictly by Islamic teachings by doing what is permitted and avoiding what is sinful.
7. Offer sincere supplications to Allah to remove from you such unfounded fears and to protect you from evil and provide you with all manner of good.

And Allah knows best.

Spatial dimensions and unseen reality, important in both science and religion, are areas that have perennially fascinated human beings.

"Unseen reality" refers to those things that exist but are not directly observable by our senses.

This includes concepts like air, gravity, or spiritual realms, which we experience through indirect evidence or faith, rather than direct observation

The quest for truth, in these and other areas, is best realized when both empirical investigations and divine revelations are wisely utilized. The human race lives in and perceives a three-dimensional world, but the existence of at least one additional (unseen) dimension continues to intrigue humankind. Might not time be a fourth dimension, one that continues alongside the spatial dimensions of height, width, and depth? Islamic insights into energy-based, higher-dimensional life forms

Since their genesis, humans have relied on religion to explain things which are true, but nonetheless unseen by the inhabitants of a three-dimensional world. Belief in the unseen, or that which cannot be scientifically proven, is a standard element of religious participation. The Qur’an provides many insights regarding the unseen and the effect of the hidden aspects of reality on human lives. First, it links the creation of life forms to water and other earthy elements: “God created every animal from water” (24:45); “... the heavens and the earth were joined together, then We clove them asunder and We got every living thing out of the water ...” (21:30).

While elements have been identified, and are scientifically verifiable, we do not know how many forms of energy exist in the universe, but known forms include electrical, radiant, thermal, sound, motion, gravitational, chemical, nuclear, mechanical, solar, geothermal, hydro, fossil, biomass, wind, and natural gas. Moreover, since, each of these classes of energy has multiple subclasses, it is estimated that there are hundreds of kinds of energy. For example, visible light has various wavelengths representing numerous colors, each representing a different kind of energy within the visible light class. Within light there are spectra that are invisible to us, i.e. UV and IR lights that we utilize for our benefits (taking x-rays and for sterilizing various objects).

If “smokeless fire” is interpreted to refer to a class of energy, then the Holy Qur’an seems to suggest the possibility that certain life forms have arisen from energy sources: “And indeed, We created man from sounding clay of altered black smooth mud. And the jinn, We created aforetime from the smokeless flame of fire” (Qur’an Sura 15, verses 26-27; italics added). It stands to reason that our 3-D-limited vision and linear interpretation of time prevents us from seeing life forms that exceed these dimensions, but many people, from many faiths, have insisted that they have felt their influence.

Based on our knowledge of the speed of light (186,000 miles per second), we would assume that an energy-based life form moving at that speed would clearly be invisible to dimension-limited mortals. Humans cannot see any light beyond a limited visible spectrum, but they can sometimes perceive the effects of such light. Persons who hear their cell phones ring would think it ludicrous to dismiss the existence of sound-causing microwaves on the grounds that they are invisible. Nor would they refuse to acknowledge the heating capacity of microwave ovens simply because they cannot visually perceive the tiny waves. Likewise, x-ray photographs, or sunburned skin, give evidence of that which is unseen but nevertheless real. These effects of energy are routinely felt but not seen. Earlier theoretical postulations and examination have led to developments in these known areas of energy forms. Contemporary theories, including string theories, will, hopefully, result in further breakthroughs.

قوانین ضمیر ناخودآگاه:

اگر تا‌به‌حال، تصوری از قوانین ضمیر ناخودآگاه نداشتید، این قسمت ممکن است شما را بترساند. البته جای نگرانی نیست. با کنترل و تمرین می‌توانید ضمیر ناخودآگاه را به دست بگیرید. از جمله قوانین ساده اما پیچیده‌ای که این ضمیر دارد، می‌توان به موارد زیر اشاره کرد:

• این ضمیر سعی دارد هر آن چیزی که در ذهن دارید، به واقعیت تبدیل کند.
• در ذهن ناخودآگاه هر کلمه، معنا و محدوده خاصی دارد. ( واژه رانندگی شما را به یاد چه چیزی می‌اندازد؟)
• در ناخودآگاه ما هر کلمه، تصویری دارد.
• در قانون ضمیر ناخود اگاه، مسیرهای منطقی برای رسیدن به احساسات و عواطف وجود ندارد. دقیقا همان احساسی که موقع دیدن فیلم ترسناک تجربه می‌کنید، با این که می‌دانید خطری شما را تهدید نمی‌کند و دلیلی برای ترس وجود ندارد.
• بخش ناخودآگاه ذهن، جمله منفی را نمی‌فهد. بنابراین اگر با خودتان تکرار می‌کنید که من دیگر پرخوری نمی‌کنم، ضمیر ناخودآگاه تصویر پرخوری کردن‌تان را به خاطر می‌سپارد.
• هر آنچه برای شما اتفاق افتاده است، ناخوداگاه بدون اینکه تفکیکی قائل شود، همانطور که هست ثبت می‌کند.
• از دیگر قوانینی که در ناخودآگاه وجود دارد، این است که این ضمیر تفاوتی بین واقعیت و خیال قائل نمی‌شود. اگر یک رزمی کار هستید، این قضیه را احتمالا هنگام تصور رینگ مسابقه یا تماشای فیلم مسابقات با بالارفتن ضربان قلب‌تان تجربه کرده باشید.

• تجسم سازی

  

روش دیگری که می‌توانید برای تسلط بر ضمیر ناخودآگاه‌تان پیش بگیرید، تجسم سازی است. به این ترتیب حداقل روزی یک بار در جایی ساکت نشسته و در حالی که ستون فقرات و گردن‌تان صاف است، چشمان‌تان را بسته و به دم و بازدم ذهن و عضلات‌تان توجه کنید. سپس هر آن چیزی که دوست دارید به آن برسید، در ذهن‌تان تجسم کنید. با تکرار و تمرین می‌توانید این تسلط را به ذهن ناهوشیارتان بدهید تا در نهایت شما را در مسیری قرار دهد که می‌خواهید به شخص مورد نظر تبدیل شوید. در نتیجه به گونه‌ای رفتار می‌کنید که شما را به آن هدف برساند. برای اینکه تصویر شفاف و واضحی در ذهنتان شکل بگیرد، ابتدا نیاز دارید آن را از خاطرات مزاحم و تصورات دلخراشی که به ذهنتان هجوم می‌آورند، پاک کنید. به عنوان قدم اول برای ورود به این مرحله، انجام مراقبه و مدیتیشن بهترین انتخاب است. در مدیتیشن شما با تمرکز بر آنچه در لحظه حال در حال رخ دادن است، ذهن خود را عامدانه از بهم‌ریختگی‌ها پاک می‌کنید.

پاک کردن ضمیر ناخودآگاه
