کاهِن (برگرفته از واژه عبری کوهن) یک اصطلاح دینی و مذهبی در دنیای کهن بوده و مترداف با مغان، آثروان و به معنای پیشگو است.
کاهِن (به کسر هاء) از واژگان قرآن کریم و به معنی کسی است که رفیقی از جنّ دارد و به او اخبار میآورد.
این لفظ تنها دو بار در قرآن مجید آمده است. کلیدواژه کاهن / (54 مقاله)
در آیه مورد بحث میخوانیم: «به لطف پروردگارت، و به برکت نعمتهايش تو كاهن و مجنون نيستى!
مواردی از کاهِن که در قرآن به کار رفته است، اشاره میشود:
- - بِکاهِنٍ (آیه ۲۹ سوره طور) (فَذَکِّرْ فَما اَنْتَ بِنِعْمَةِ رَبِّکَ بِکاهِنٍ وَ لا مَجْنُونٍ)
«تذکّر بده تو به واسطه وحی خدا نه کاهنی که گفتار خویش را از جنّ گرفته باشی و نه مجنونی که لا عن شعور سخن بگویی.»
- - کاهِنٍ (آیه ۴۲ وسره حاقه) (وَ لا بِقَوْلِ کاهِنٍ قَلِیلًا ما تَذَکَّرُونَ) (نه گفته كاهنى، اما كمتر متذكّر مىشويد.)
راغب گوید: کاهن کسی است که از اخبار گذشته مخفی از روی ظنّ خبر میدهد و عرّاف آن است که از اخبار آینده همین طور خبر میدهد و چون این دو صناعت مبنی بر ظنّ است که گاهی درست و گاهی نادرست در میآید.

جادوگر یا افسونگر کسی است که جادو میکند. باور به سحر و جادو و اینکه کسانی توان استفاده از انواع خاصی از قدرت فوقالعاده دارند, در بسیاری از فرهنگها در سراسر جهان از دیرباز تا به امروز یافت میشود و در پی آن پیروی یا نفرت از جادوگران نیز همواره وجود داشتهاست.
سردرگمی بسیاری در تعریف و شناخت جادوگران در زمینههای تاریخی، انسانشناسی، مذهبی و اساطیری مختلف وجود دارد. اعتقاد به جادوگری معمولاً به عنوان نوعی ایدئولوژی فرهنگی تلقی میشود.
